What couples say.

Amanda Alessi

"Drew and I love house music and really didn't want the usual cringe wedding music playing throughout the night. He honestly brought all our EDM club vibes to life. We said the dirtier the better and he delivered."

"I seriously wanted to live, die and be buried on the dance-floor he helped us create. I haven't danced that hard and continuously in such a long time. He delivered exactly what he promised and more."

"We lost count of how many people told us it was the best wedding dance floor they'd ever experienced. Our only regret? That the night couldn't last longer!"

"The crowd DID.NOT.STOP.DANCING!!! They even paid him extra to keep going. I can't wait to work with him again and I'm kicking myself I didn't book him for my own wedding."

"All of our guests said that was the best wedding dance floor they've ever experienced which was one of my biggest hopes for the day. I couldn't walk for 5 days after because my calves literally felt like they ripped off the bone from dancing so hard."

"Their setup is world-class โ€” with modern decks and tube lighting that truly set the scene, a huge step up from the standard trestle table look. The dancefloor is always packed, the energy is high, and the vibes are unmatched."

The problem with wedding DJs

You've been to that wedding.

You know the set. Eagle Rock. Dancing Queen. Horses. Every track a safe crowd-pleaser from the same wedding playlist as every other wedding.

And then the mixing. Or the lack of it. One song stops and the next one starts. No energy, no momentum, no read of the room. Who's behind the decks matters more than most couples realise.

How it should work

Not a set list. A conversation.

Before we play a single track, you fill in a questionnaire. Must-plays. Do-not-plays. A vibe list for the feel you want on the dancefloor.

Then we meet and go through it together. Not just the songs, but what's behind them. Why certain tracks are on the do-not-play list. What the vibe list actually means to you. Which guests are coming and what they'll respond to.

The real skill is staying true to that brief while reading the room on the night.

Josh Parish, Melbourne wedding DJ
About our founder | Josh

Melbourne weddings deserved better DJs.

Married to the Groove started with a simple observation: the wedding scene here had a taste problem. The same tired sets every weekend, played from behind a trestle table with a flashing light on it.

So I built the other option. DJs who actually mix and read the room, and a custom booth and white speaker setup that looks like it belongs in your venue. That standard now runs through me and five handpicked associate DJs.

Common questions

Answered honestly.

Married to the Groove is run by founder and director Josh, who in 2025 expanded the team with five incredibly talented associate DJs, each with over ten years behind the decks. You'll know exactly who your DJ is from the start, and we will never switch DJs on you. Want to hear them first? There are mixes from every DJ you can listen to. No matter who you pick, the night is going to be fantastic.
Yes, that's the whole point. Before the day, we do a music consultation call. You share a must-play list, a do-not-play list, and optionally a Spotify playlist for vibe reference. We build the set around it, then adapt on the night based on what the floor is actually responding to.
We love house and disco, but we can throw down a solid pop, R&B, or indie set too. We mix through genres and decades to match the energy of the dancefloor. More dance music, less pub rock.
Yes, available as an add-on. That includes runsheet planning, on-night coordination with your venue, photographer, and other vendors, and hosting the reception. Announcements, managing timing, keeping the night moving. Most couples book DJ and MC together for a smoother night.
Yes. Most Victorian venues (including the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula) are covered without a travel surcharge. For distances that require an overnight stay, travel costs apply and we'll quote those upfront. Interstate and overseas is possible depending on timing, just ask.
Every booking includes a custom-built plywood DJ booth and a PA system suitable for up to 150 guests indoors or 100 outdoors. We cover both ceremony and reception DJing. MC service, lighting (neon tubes, moving heads, haze machine), and a live set recording are available as add-ons. Full pricing is on the pricing page.
Most couples book 12โ€“18 months out. Spring and early summer (October through December) fills fastest. If your date is within 6 months, it's still worth checking. There are sometimes gaps. If you're unsure, enquiring doesn't lock you in to anything.
Yes. Professional-grade equipment, spare hard drives to run music off, and a backup microphone on the night. We've never had a night go dark, and we intend to keep it that way.
Absolutely. Send through a list of the cultural songs you want, and we'll work out the format together: either a dedicated block (usually 15โ€“20 minutes) or sprinkled through the night. What works best depends on your crowd and the vibe you're going for.

One honest note: if you're after someone with deep expertise in a specific culture's music, or want more than about half an hour of it, we're probably not the right fit. Better to be upfront about that than to overpromise.
Every package is built around a 5-hour reception DJ set and includes the custom booth, speakers, a wedding planning meeting, and a wireless microphone. Ceremony, cocktail hour, MC, lighting, and live set recording are available as add-ons. Fill in the enquiry form below and we'll send through a full price breakdown within 48 hours.
